Problems - Is it the temp
    #560837 -

Hey all, my cakes have been in the terrarium with really high humidity. I think they've been in for about 4 or five days. None of the 6 are pinning. I don't think it's very hot in there, could this be a problem? I don't have a thermometre at the moment, but I'm guessings temps are only around 60 F. Humidity is high though, probably around 80% - 90%.

Anyway, if these cakes don't work out is it possible to trip on the cakes?

Hopefully I won't be reduced to munching on rice cakes, I'll try and raise the temp in there tonight and see if it helps but any input would be great. Thank you all.

Peace

i usually don't birth my cakes till i see some pinning...
i find that the cakes grow best in temps that you and i are most comfortable in. i don't go into the hassle of how many percent things are and what temps are. i just stick them in those seeding trays... close the lid and let them do their magic.

I think he means as far as light hitting everywhere on the cake. This can be a problem sometimes, might want to cover the sides with paint o duct tape to get light only from the top, but FOAF never has problems as long as most of the light comes fromt he top.

As far as the pinning goes. FOAF'S usually take about a week or a little more to start seeing pins, so don't worry, you're just getting anxious.

Mike,

You need to get your temps up !!!
And raise the humidity too !!!

72 to 75 degrees........and 95% humidity or higher for cakes.

Good luck !

I also had 6 tin pans sitting at 70 degrees. Finally after 2 weeks I raised the temps to 78 degrees. Wow, now I have hundreds of shrooms growing.

It can take a couple weeks. Try 72 degrees and more patience!
