Not picking the little ones after first flush

I had a nice first flush, however there were smaller guys who weren't aborts, they were just a little behind all the other ones. I picked all the bigger ones, and left a few of the smaller ones, the aborts I could tell were not going anywhere, and picked those.
These small musshies have been growing, but kinda slow. Will this cause the casing not to go through a second flush? Should I just pick them and re-initiate the pinning cycle? Why cant you just pick the mature ones and let the smaller ones keep going? Or is it that the smaller ones just dont even get that much bigger?
Any info would be great...thanks.

Well they would most probably keep growing, but i personally think that its better to pick them just so you can maintain even flushes.

Hmm ya...I see what you mean.
For some reason one of my casings, which I had 2 1/2 pint cakes crumbeld into only produced 1 HUGE shroom. Weight was 32.3 grams. That was it. I picked it, and there was like 3 little guys just starting to come up. So, its been 2 days now and they have gotten a litle bigger. I was just dissapointed from that first flush only producing a single shroom, while all the others were doing great.

I have noticed(growing for a year or so), that it's quite hard to keep shit even with casings when your not very expereinced. I have had a hardtime anyway. I have a blue thumb for it, but there is a lot I eed to learn. I think doing some temp and humidity experiments might help. I have also had casings that dont produce much in a flush. Sometimes just 1 or 2. Sometimes my mushrooms go on an aborting rampage, and there are like 100 aborts, and 3 or 4 shrooms. WTF!! I think steady flushes require some expereince. Although sometimes my flushes are exeptional. I rthink the longer you go at it and learn, the better the flushes become. Anyway good luck,

Yes, true.
Unfortuently, during the whole pinning and beginning of fruting cycle, I didnt have a hygrometer. I just went by temps. I got a hygrometer and found out that my humidity was only at 75%, even though the walls of my terr was SOAKED in water. Its basically because my room is in the high 50's to low 60's that it condenses so easily. It threw me off.
Now I have a digital hygrometer, and im ready to go again for the next time...I also had 5 casings, which I all made at different times...DOH .. Which made it hard to decide how my humidity should be at...(Some were at the hyphal knot stage, while some were producing pins over 1/2 inch). So next time Im going to make them at the same time, and do them all at the same time.
I just made a straw tray today...see how that goes.. *gulp*

Oooh, straw! which tek? where'd you get yuor hygrometer, I wish there was some sort of paper like for pH that could tell you humidity, that'd be k-rad.

Whats up split?
Still think you look like that guy in your avatar..lol
I got my hygrometer at radioshack for 29.99. ... kinda expensive, but I think its worth it for sure.
As for the straw tek, I used my own idea, but I basically followed Shroomgods tek.
Pasturized straw for 1 hour @ 170F. Drained, then put in a rubbermaid tray. I filled the botom, then took a brf/verm cake, crumbeled half of it on that layer, then put another straw layer on that, then put the other half of a cake on that, then more straw. Pressed down hella hard, and now its in incubation...Im just a little worried cause my cake wasn't all the way colonized through the center, but, we'll see I guess.

those white radio shack hygrometers suck ass. id go with one of the good mini digital cigar hygrometers that you can find for a reasonable price on ebay. they show temp/hydro. i love mine and they are accurate as hell.

Yeah iVe heard those work well too.
I went to this local humidor the other day, and he had some digital hygrometers for 40 bucks...I asked him if it goes up to 100%, and he said no, because they are only made for humidors...He was an asshole to say the least so I dont know if i really belive him.
The radioshack ones have been ok Ive heard from other guys. My friend has one , and its been workin for a while now. I think you have to make sure you get the right one for outdoor use. Oh well, we'll see how it wokrs i guess.
