Foreign aid usually ends up in the hands of oppressive dictators rather than the people who need it. It's basically a way for politicians to make themselves look good without actually solving anything.

Yeah, I'm against global welfare as well. Get them off their asses, teach them how to PROVIDE FOR THEMSELVES, if you wish.

If they cannot, (or will not) provide for themselves, then they should not be breeding and in any case they are NOT entitled to my cash.

250 years ago the United States was a wilderness, we are among the richest now because we worked hard at it for these 200+ years.

Let those people over there get off their asses and work for a few hundred years and watch how rich they could become.

If they're too stupid, or too fucking lazy to do this, then by all means, we should let natural selection handle the problem for us free of charge.

It's not that they're stupid and lazy. They're just developing. Many Third World countries are about where we were 100 years ago. There are several groups which are doing great work to improve conditions in other countries, such as Doctors Without Borders, the Grameen Bank, the Red Cross, etc. I just think that foreign aid is among the more useless ways of trying to solve the problem.

They have cheap labor. This may not seem like much, but it helped transform Hong Kong into an economic miracle. Often, it's political conditions which contribute to a nation's poverty. Countries either run by dictatorships or engaged in civil war tend to be poorer than those who have more political and social freedoms. This is one reason why I don't see much good coming from foreign aid. By giving all this money to these dictators, we're merely reinforcing these conditions.
