Old science fiction, or new science fiction - which better?

I myself prefer the older variety - Marry Shelley, H.G. Wells, Verne, etc. The writing is simply better, and I don't find the stories to be as shallow (esp. with the first mentioned author).
What do you think?

What makes You claim that "new science fiction" is shallow? I'm not the biggest fan of contemporary sci-fi literature, but I have to admit that I've read quite some that is anything but. Ursula K. Le Guin, Philip K. Dick, Douglas Adams, Carl Sagan to name a few. Do you think there was no shallow sci-fi 100 or so years ago?

I really think that science fiction has come a long way since Mary Shelley (Romantic period) and Wells and Verne (Victorian Age). But with tons of great writers, we have a lot less readers in this age of gadgets and zero attention spans. And our language has changed since the 19th century, so, ASD11, you probably like the older language a little better. You should check out Arthur Machen, Ambrose Bierce, and Arthur Conan Doyle for some more "weird" 19th century literature. LOL.

Older
I feel that more time went into the writing and story
Read "The Mote in God's Eye" for a prime example

I don't know if this is classified as old or new, but my favorite sci fi was written in the 60's / 70's era. Older is too dated, newer is too ... I don't know, not written with as much heart.

One reason old sci-fi, and old "classics" in general, look so good is that you're really only reading the cream of the crop that survived. You're not really getting the full spectrum of what was published back then. And especially compared to today where there is such a glut of crap published, it's hard to find the diamonds in the rough as it were.
Old or new, there are good writers and bad.

I personally love Asimoc and Arthur C. Clarke, is that new? I don't really think so
