Read the whole "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" series by Douglas Adams. It is not really classified as philosophical, more like science fiction humor, but the amount of subtle real world relations to things like government and shit and subtle philosophical ideas is amazing. And they are all presented in a very funny science fiction story.

thanks for the recomendations... i am definately going to check into the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy... that has been recomended to me before, but i wrote it off as a sci-fi book (which i am not really interested in).
