heating a Martha style closet
    #5419440 - 03/19/06 05:11 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

i just put together a Martha style closet and it works great but the only downside is keeping the temp. up. I live in the north and it is very cold the room in which my setup is in stays around the low to mid 60' in the winter. I have a heat lamp on it which brings up the temp. to the low 70's but then the humidity drops to mid 80's. I don't want to run my ultrasonic to long to get the humidity up since everything will start getting wet. any ideas???

You're heating it with a heat lamp?

Try looking into some of the methods that utilize fish tank heaters. For example, I would recommend a "heat bomb" which is basically a fish tank heater that is sealed off in like a two liter bottle or something. You turn the heater on and it heats up the water, which in turn heats up the area you're trying to warm. There are a bunch of different methods for maintaining heat though, try looking through the FAQ.

I use a big tote in the bottom of my tent with a 200 watt aquarium heater in it. I keep about 3" of water in the bottom. This provides me with heat and 95% RH +

Tote cost about $15 - 200 L tote - biggest I could find.
Heater, $35

If you do this, you'll need to figure out a way to deal with the condensation that will build up on the inside of the closet. The higher you set the heater, the more condensation you will get.
