sphagnum peat moss?

i bought 30lb bag of this stuff from kmarts today, is it alright to use? and one other question, ive been reading about wether or not to sterilize this stuff. there seems to be mixed feelings. from what i understand, the mycelium can benifit from some of the organism inside the peat moss. so should i sterilize it? and when i do can i put it in the oven and for how long and at what temp?

This is the good stuff.

If you want to grow a nice casing of mold/green/etc , dont sterilize, if you want some healthy mushies, multiple flushes and no contams, sterilize.

i do mine at 15psi for 45
same as my substrate

mix your substrate

stuff into quart jars (about 3/4 full)

pressure cook at 15psi for 30 mins

i'm assuming you have spagnum for a casing like 50/50 or by itself. i believe you want to mix with the amount of water you are using according to which ever tek or recipe you are using, then you can put it in a pan and bake in the oven with foil over it. try 45 minutes. make sure to let it cool thoroughly before using it, and if it seems a liitle dry then you can mist your casing.

how do you bake this stuff for 45 mins without it drying out? do you re-add water after you bake the substrate? thats confusing to me?

Yeah you can add a little more water after baking it.
