'lo shroomsters
i am getting ready to case and i have a couple questions (duh)
I went to meijer last nite to purchase some verm and all they had was miracle grow sphagnum peat moss. I was wondering if that would work any better than verm. Also, when i set up my terrarium, i plan on doing this:
cut hole in top of tupperware for light, putting one inch of perlite on the bottom. then taking two cheapo aluminum pans and putting either damp peat moss or damp verm on the top and bottom layers and crumbled cakes in the middle layer. Does that sound right? Thanks to all that have helped so far and in the future, chao!

Do a little research before asking the same question that has been asked before. Use the search function.
a buffered mixture of peatmoss and verm is fairly common, but some have moved onto Coir instead of peatmoss.
you do not need a lower casing layer.
search next time.

Sphagnum Peat and Peat Moss are different things, though unfortunately, nobody ever told the Scotts Company about this.. Peat moss is a composted substance that is collected from the ground in highly vegetative areas, such as the forest.. Sphagnum Peat Moss is the whispy stuff that hangs from trees in swamps, commonly found in the southern US. I've heard either one will work, but if you buy the Scotts brand Sphagnum Peat Moss, what you get is regular peat, which works fine.
It is not a replacment for vermiculite by weight, however.. If you plan on casing with peat moss, best to find a peat moss tek that'll give you a good proportion to use with it.. I also recomment using a pinch of hydrated lime with the peat casing to ward off contams.
