Brown slime on stalled WBS jars
    #5378015 - 03/08/06 04:01 PM (17 years, 10 months ago)

So there's 8 WBS jars brewing in a TiT in the lower 80's, 5 are doing good, 2 are so-so, and one is a worry. The mycelium doesn't look like it's taken anymore birdseed, there's just a lump of the beautiful white stuff there. Also, some seed near the myc has what looks like brown slime on it. There's no excess moisture, if anything the seed could use more water. This is absent in every other jar. The jars were g2g & have been colonizing for about 2 weeks now and they range from 80% colonized to 50%. The weak slime jar is about 20%. Is this a cause of concern? I'll post pictures later today; just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

My rule of thumb is: If one jar out of the same batch performs markedly slower than all the others, pitch it. Even if it is not a contam, do you really want to case something that colonizes at 25% the rate of its counterparts?
