On the 10th and 12th some WBS jars and bowls were hit with some liquid mycelium water. They seemed almost a little dry, so like 4-5cc were used for each to have more water content.
The WBS was soaked like 20 some odd hours, and it had the smell of fermentation, not to mention the bubbles and what not. The second batch was soaked for like 14 hours, this too seemed to start to ferment. It was rinsed like there's no tomorrow and than drained for a few hours.
The jars and bowls took off like maniacs, mycelium growth was seen the very next day, and 2 days after, they seemed around 30% complete. Well they started sweating like mad, and this made the sides and tops very wet... this continues even though a lot escapes thru the tyvek.
Theres a strong strong Ammonia smell in the seed, its ultra strong and unmistakable -- also the growth now looks just kind of like dry and clumpy. What happened?
Probably bacterial contamination. Next time add a little of bleach to the water you're using to soak the grain, like 1:100 bleach:water ratio. If you feel the grain has to soak longer because it has not achieved a good water content, like 24 hrs, you should change the water 12 hrs after soaking, drain and soak again for the next 12 hrs.
