Bacterial contaminated wbs casing...
    #1623387 - 06/10/03 09:44 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

One of my cased wbs containers has a slight sour smell to it (bacteria). The others I have are fine with a typical pleasant mushroom smell, strong mycelium growth into the casing layer, another pinning and another two now 2nd patched on case. All wbs was 100% colonised before being cased, no "raw" material in them.

The one that has the bacterial problem suffered to a 35C temp jacking on a heat pad. So it's only just happened. I guess the heat stress tipped the scales to Mr bacteria umm. Yeah, gotta get a double crate and fish tank heater set-up so I can regulate the temp.

Anyway, inspecting the colonised wbs below, it doesn't have the vigorous growth of mend as seen in the other cased wbs trays. More like how it appears when spooned from the jar. You know the typical mycelium "brushed off look" from transplant disturbance to a tray. It's now relocated to a more mild 27C temp zone.

Is it possible that the mycelium will win in this new and more favourable temperature regime or is it doomed on the grounds of safety? TIA.

Sometime things happen all the sudden when you push the red button. Well yes, microorganism spores germinate if they have the required parameters to do so. If you heated the casing to a germinating temp of some bacteria then it would be very likely that something like you describe could happen.
Regarding your question, i think the whole stuff will not react to a decrease in temperature. Bacteria has already germinated and its life cycle is right now very independent and not affected by such a small variation in temperature.
Bacteria is very hard to fight, i would toss it.

You were right MAIA, my attempt at isolation to see if it would come good, well it just started to really reak by this morning so off it went outside, some cow manure over the top with straw. Maybe something will come good of it? Thanks for your help.
