Since when?
Fuck the Sex Pistols, they're boring, and I'm sure even they know that.

The Sex Pistols were about a silly rebel attitude that was nothing more than teen angst and posturing. But that's what all punk is really about.
They're just less pretentious than most of the others. It's not like they're musically worse than 75% of all the punk bands that have become famous further underground. Never Mind the Bollocks was a perfectly good punk album.
But it's definitely funny how full of themselves they are. It's part of the whole act, they're probably aware of how ridiculous it is. Ever seen Johnny Rotten in an interview, particularly recently? It's just a spectacle for them, and they pull it off well. It's almost like a real life performance of Spinal Tap or something.

bAH. Punk back then was about being pissed off at the huge division of classes in the UK which was a viable cause.
You gotta remember back then... it's like trying to appreciate a movie from 30 years ago. It's harder because it was a different time, a different culture. They needed punk rock back then like the people needed jesus 2000 years ago.
Nowadays it's just a bunch of upper middle class suburban kids trashing the name of what used to be about freedom. 99% of the kids wearing misfits shirts don't even know who the misfits are just like 99% of the people wearing che guevara shirts dont know what he did or his significance.. I'm in Singapore right now and I saw some 30 year old chinese woman wearing an andy warhol pop-art version of Che's image. I wanted to puke all ove rher tits right then and there.

I don't buy that. Some of the earliest bands rose out lower class britain, but it would never have happened without angsty teens following the bands, and of course, Malcolm McLaren deciding he could make some cash.

The Sex Pistols were a great band... extremely influential and more significant than you think. Plain and simple. Rock would be quite different today without them. Don't get modern punk confused with vintage...
Y'all Phish listening, dead worshiping hippie's will never understand.
There are other punk bands out there that I enjoy more.. the ramones, rancid, dead kennedy's, and even a few of the newer ones... but I've got mad respect for the Pistols and the legacy they left. They were a true punk band being manipulated by an asshole manager selling them out.

No.
Listen to Refused, please. The Shape of Punk To Come not only has jazz, but electronica influences. They are far from silly/angsty.

Lets all say it together, "The Sex Pistols Sucked"
But I'm gonna have to say that punk was never about angst, there's just two different schools that appeared, one is angsty MTV type punk, and then you have the other, the stuff that has an actual message, actual emotion and meaning, the stuff that Viacom will never show on TV, the kind that would refuse a chance even if given one.

You're telling me the sex pistols don't belong to the latter? Remember this was 30 years ago in london. The stuff they talked about was the stuff that everyone pissed off with the current situation was feeling, but didn't have the balls to say. They were ground breaking. God Save the Queen made it to #1, but the gov't was so afraid of it they wouldn't allow it to be printed on the charts.. there was just a BLANK slot at #1. They pushed the limits of free speech and had a huge hand in allowing musicians to have the freedom to say what they want to say.

That doesn't really have anything to do with music, though. Lyrical content, possibly. Maybe they should have been inducted into the Freedom Of Speach Hall of Fame instead??

Probably.
They made good music... they had lyrics that were emotional... they inspired thousands and thousands of other bands... who still look up to them today.. 30 years later.. they had many people try to actually KILL them, putting them into the hospital on occasion for speaking their minds with serious injuries yet they kept on playing...
sounds like a good band to me that deserves to be in the hall of fame.
... whether or not they want to be is another question.

Please, the sex pistols came about during the first wave of punk bands in England. The Ramones had already made punk and it was already a scene in New York. The Sex Pistols just got famous for whatever reason, but they didnt invent punk, and they werent even a good punk band. The Clash who were around at the exact same time, were better. Wire was far better. The Sex Pistols were a joke.
