Has anyone had any experience with this chemical? I think baeocystin is technically legal. Does it give pretty similar effects to psilocybin?

?? Where do you have this information from?
For all I know, it is structurally and pharmacologically comparable to psilocybin.

Baeocystin and norbaeocystin is a mild respitory inhibitor. This is true.
Im not to sure how psychedelic it is though due to its strong structural relationship to psilocybin. SO ya, I am less sure about how psychedelic it is by its self. I have read that it has very little visual/cognative effects (somewhere).
Your right, It likely does have some psychedelic effects. Im pretty sure it would take a hell of alot of it to make you trip ina way that is similare to psilocybin.

Baeocystin and norbaeocystin is a mild respitory inhibitor. SO although I personally have read little about its toxicity, it could obviously be what you might call poisonous. At large doses it could really fuck with your respiration and with little psychedelic effects.

nor-beocystin>>>>>>beocystin>>>>>>>>psilocybin>>>>>>psilocin
they matabolize like this in your body. it ends up being psilocin and thats what affects you.

Anyone got sources for all these claims? They're all new to me.

Heres a good article, i exerpted where i took my info.
There is a good thread about this that me and Frappy worked on last year. Mj made some good posts in it too.
http://www.magic-mushrooms.info/chemistry.htm
In other words, baeocystin and norbaeocystin are just psilocybin with one methyl and two methyls respectively lopped off. And unfortunately for all you synthesis experts, while baeocystin and norbaeocystin do not have DEA control numbers they do both come under the Controlled Substance Analogue Act.
When dephosphorylated, they turn into 4-hydroxy-N-methyltryptamine and 4-hydroxytryptamine. All 4 substances are presumed hallucinogenic, but less so than psilocin or psilocybin. Very little work seems to have been done on them (Chemical Abstracts averages a cite a year, with most of them of the variety "baeocystin found in Psilocybe totallyobscuralis"). There has been some speculation on the 'net about them, and a possible correlation between nausea and the amount of baeocystin has been found. We hope to be able to investigate the question further for the next version.

I read over on lyceum that norbaecystin is a respirity inhibitor and mushrooms containing large amounts of it tend to make you lose your ego more quickly due to lack of oxygen to the brain.
