My Ipod is starting to fail on me, so I might be in the market for another mp3 player this summer. I'll have to check it out.

I love my h340 - one of the best players around. havent tried the rockbox project release yet (first time I've heard about it).

what are the features of the RB firmware? is there a list somewhere? I'm looking for .flac support, on-the-fly playlists, gapless playback, and of course excellent battery life...

i'm glad to be the first to tell you about it... i'm sure you've already checked misticriver though (ROCKbox hasn't formaly released it for the Iriver H3XX but it's already working... though i'm sure battery usage would be much better when the formal releas is out)

.flac supported!
i'm pretty sure the rest is also...

what i'm most pleased about is the themes (some of them show all the tag data which the original does not!) and as far as i know there's a way to use data base features (but i think i'm gonna wait a while with that... still seems to need some work)

best thing is you can choose what to boot to so if there's something the rockbox does not do and you want to use (like viweing JPGs for now) you can just boot the original hardwear!

i'm not sure what you mean... but i know you can download any .avi file and convert it (still in .avi as far as i know only specific dimentions) so it would play on the Iriver (i wouldn't bother with it though... only for show maybe :grin:

and i understand it's not that hard to do... but i hate messing with larg files on my computer... it's too old for todays standards maybe when i get a new one i'll start with all the movie files as well but for now i don't have enough space (and the fact that i don't have USB2 on my computer means downloading stuff to the Iriver is pretty slow... but when you can download 4 hours of music in 10 minuts it doesn't really matter)

i love my Iriver!

from what I've read the rockbox firmware isnt so great at playing .avi yet. so if you want to watch movies, just use (or boot into) the official iriver firmware (the h3xx series plays .avi already - the movies must be converted to a specific-framerate divx format using one of the apps floating around like iriverter ).

sounds great - thanks for the heads up. I first read about the rockbox project about a year ago when I bought my h340 and forgot about it - guess they've made alot of progress since then.

I'm going to give this a try. flac support is sweet :thumbup:

i just figured out how to make on-the-fly playlist... you have the choice of where to put the file/dir into the play list (even shuffled in!!! that's better then winamp!!!)
it says how much better time you've got left (in minuts)

and it supports .mpc also which my winamp does not (i know i can fix that but i'm lazy...)

this is just getting better and better... though i've yet to manage plaing doom on mine........... and i've been trying for a while...
soon enough everything will run even better so i'm not worried (not like i'm actualy gonna play doom on it... but it would be nice to show off to all the simpelton Ipod drones Muhahahaha)

I believe there is also a plugin that allows you to run a gameboy advance emulator on it.
