Does anyone have an iRiver? I'm thinking about either getting the 30GB iPod or the 20GB iRiver

? Plays up to 600 hours of digital music* ? 20GB of internal storage** ? Vivid color display ? Ultra-intuitive interface with convenient touch strip ? Displays your digital photos ? Slim, lightweight design ? PlaysForSure enabled to play more of your music ? Rechargeable battery lasts up to 16 hours ? Built-in FM tuner and FM recorder ? Integrated voice recorder ? Ultra-fast USB 2.0 transfers ? Supports MP3, WMA, JPEG and TXT files ? Enhanced 3D audio (supports SRS WOW?)
One of the things I don't like about the iPod is that you can't transfer files from it to another computer. Any input would be greatl y appreciated.

I've got a friend who has the 20 gig iriver and loves it. But for 300 bucks, you could get a 30 gig jetaudio x5L from newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855603827
It does all the same things, plays videos, all different audio file types, can act as a flash drive (even for digi cams), FM receiver, voice recorder, etc. AND it's got a 35 hr battery life. It's gotten nothing but great reviews too. So if you're prepared to lay down 300 bucks, take a look at it. I myself have been looking at the x5, which is just like the x5L, but $30 cheaper w/ a 14 hr battery life instead of 35 hrs.
But if you're bent on the iRiver, from what I hear it's a solid player too. Like I said, my friend loves it.

Oh shit, I started looking around newegg after sending you that link, and I saw that the iRiver is $265 there. So if you plan on buying one, get it from www.newegg.com to get the best deal. Hell, if you need any computer related or electronic item in the future, go to newegg first. They've always got the best deals.

I've heard good things about the iriver. I nearly bought one, but eventually decided on a creative zen micro.
The only negative thing i read about the Iriver is that the scroll bar is somewhat sensitive and takes some getting used to.
i would DEFINITLY get an iriver over an Ipod if i were you though, but I'm strongly anti-ipod

like bio i have no idea about the new Iriver (except that it's got an optical line in/out and it's only 20 gigs) i've got the h340 and i can't get enough of it! it shows AVI it shows pictures it plays everything except WMA (windows copyrighted format) and if you put rockbox on it youll be able to play DOOM on it or see albume art or play games while listening to music and all sorts of other stuff (including on the fly playlists and gapeless play...)
AND you won't have to go through Itune every time you want to load music on it... it acts like an external drive so you simply drag and drop...

Don't get an iPod. I have the 40gb 4th generation iPod. It SUCKS! If you really want to know how I feel, read this.
I bought an iRiver H340 about four months ago.
The iPod has been in the junk box ever since.

I bought mine used and it doesn't have any of the bugs and cons that you said. Wierd. Costs 40 dollars to replace the battery, by the way. well, 20, if u want a shitty one.
