Countdown to Mushies, last minute questions

Hi Guys!
You all have been so nice to me even though I'm new. Yesterday I bought my terrarium setup and jars--I decided that it would cost as much for semi-automated setup with cool-mist humidifier (this I bought at Wal-Mart for $15.00!) for as much as 4 pre-autoclaved jars. I get to inoculate 12 jars instead of four for the same cost, you guys were right. I might have trouble finding pure vermiculite, though. Can sterilized perlite be used in its place (modified PF Tek I'm using)? Vermiculite is hard to find when it's not in regular potting soil. Part of this is because it's winter-time, I realize. I was lucky enough to find the jars I needed! I also am debating about which way to orient the jars during incubation. A modified PF tek offered on this site says to leave jars right-side up, then flip the cakes over during birthing. Can I just incubate them upside down so I don't have to flip them over
later, or does this encourage poor airflow/contamination?
OK- I also am wondering about the humidifier setup. It's a very small humidifer, but I'm sure it will do the job. Is a drip shield necessary? I'm inclined to think not.
I also have been thinking about having to keep this room closed off from my house. I have a cat, so I know she has to be kept out of this room. Even if the container is sealed, this room must be kept super clean, right? It's a room I use alot to study in, and it will be harder to keep this room warm if the door is closed all the time. I don't know what to do!
One more thing- I ordered a spore print instead of syringes. Spore prints were more reasonable and can be sent through the mail so no shipping cost. I read about inoculating (i'm going to oven inoculate) from spore print, does it work, or do I have to make a syringe from the print?
Sorry for all the questions, I just think of things like this when I'm waiting for spores to arrive!

Okay you asked alot of questions I will try answer them all.
Vermiculite can be found at most hardware/garden stores, just ask for help from someone that works there. (HomeDepot, Lowes and ACE Hardware all carry vermiculite).
Need to use Vermiculite in the jars perlite won't do much if anything. Brown rice flour and vermiculite mix works real well for the first time.
I start my jars right-side-up and usually towards the end of them colonizing I flip them to allow the CO2 to drain out the innoculation holes.
For birthing the cakes you want them to be right-side-up.
I've yet to use a humidifier, I use perlite to regulate my humidity and have not had to use a drip shield yet.
Make sure that you fan your terrarium, unless you have created another method of exchanging the air.
I keep all my mushroom related items secluded from the rest of the house. I don't have much problems with contamination and I am not super clean. I've used a space heater to regulate temperatures but it started to dry up my casings. The colonizing jars will create their own heat as they release CO2.
As far as the spore print, I don't know of any other ways to innoculate a jar using the pf-tek without a syringe. You'll have to mix the spores from the print into a small cup and some distilled water. Then suck up the solution in the cup.
I use the oven-innoculation-tek with much success.
I think I have answered all your questions, you can private message me, if you need any other help.
