Quite possibly my favorite Dead show ever

well, the first set atleast ranks in the top upper area, cause i cant exactly go sayin a show from 69 is superior to a show in say, 77, when it was completely different, but i've always been a bit partial to the pigpen era.

so i've had this show for awhile, but it's been floatin around somewhere, and i had this itchin for my top pick of Dark Star>St Stephen>William Tell>The Eleven>Lovelight which is one of the most beautlyfully orchistrated sets you'll hear from that era.

and for the date, 69-03-02. Not to be confused with it's more known sister show, 69-03-01, which is also very awesome (the cryptical from that show, however the darkstar>...>lovelight from this one is just supreme)

This is from the same run that Live/Dead was compiled from (it's belived that Death Don't Have No Mercy, Feedback and We Bid You Goodnight on Live/Dead are from this show) (deaddisc.com)

Like i was sayin, the first set is one of my favorites of all times, the whole thing is perfect. The second set, is also really good, but for some reason, it doesnt stick out as a date in my head for that set... i think it's cause every time i put this show on it's specificaly for set 1.

if your a fan of live/dead, you'll love this one for sure.

I've always loved that run, truly is amazing stuff:thumbup:

As for my favourite show...as much as I love soundboard recordings I'm a sucker for remastered sound quality. Therefor I gotta go with 4/24/72, the complete show released as Rockin' the Rhein. It just blows my mind...they were in such fine form on that tour its rediculous.:gd_icon:

i downloaded that show, its pretty bad ass, i was trippin on truckin, and how freakin sweet it is

i suggest "download series 8" for a good truckin>nobody's fault but mine>eyes of the world>broken down palace chinda cat>i know you rider>... etc

What a tour though...I can't wait for a fall '73 offical release. I'm not quite sure it would beat out Dick's Picks 28, another '73...shes a gem.

some of the best quality recordings came from 70-73, then they just sorta went down hill, the pre 70 recordings are really good, but the early 70's just had so much better quality, it's wierd cause you would expect technology to get better...

not to say that they dont have good quality past that, but it seems that it progressivly went down hill, with a few random shows bieng of highest quality.  i know most the shows from the 80's had lower quality (in my opinion)... i bet, in contrast, the venue's sound quality went up. i'd like to be there at teh live shows, to do a comparison, but i guess so would everyone :grin:

also, i feel it's my duty to add that the album "ladies and gentlemen, the grateful dead" is some of the best you'll hear as well... from the closing run of the fillmore east, 71-04-25~29 (all good shows indivvidualy btw)

It does seem to have gone downhill after the early 70's hasnt it? I sometimes find it hard to listen to anything after '73 just because it doesnt sound like what I've been accustom too since '68-'73 is what I'm all about.

I think its safe to say that their greatest live sound quality was achieved in '74 with the wall of sound but like I said I find it hard listening to those recordings...Billy K even talked about how the voices were all muffled and that it sounded like they were in a box or something. It also has alot to do with whoever their sound technician was at the time. I think Bear and Dan Healy were always regarded as the band's favourites.

yea, that's one of my biggest complaints from post 73, is that they have a lot of vocal distorsion.
