The Teens of Today vs. The Teens of Yesterday
    #5226442 -

So around noon today I got a call from my mom. She gave some pretty bad news, my younger brother is who 15 years old is in the emergency room. He had overdosed on Clonazepam, apparentely a friend gave him some saying it would mess him up and he took 15 mg of it.

It really makes me think, did my drug usage in my teen years [and even today] contribute to this. I smoked marijuana about a month ago with him after learning he had been doing it for 2 years now, not thinking of any consequence. Many of my friends' younger brothers are doing the same stupid shit. They are snorting/smoking/swallowing anything that they think will get them high. Are these the teens of today?

I remember as a teen I would massively research EVERYTHING about a substance i was curious in. I studied mushrooms and LSD for about a year each before feeling confident to do them. I would make sure I was prepared, and most of the people I knew would do the same.

But this coming generation, i don't know man, they are on a slippery slope. I mean I almost lost my brother today.

Thats unfortunate and I really hope your brother is ok. I ,still in my teen years [18] make sure I research everything before I do it. Some kids don't know what they are getting into and will take anything just to get fucked up. If I were you I'd try and talk to him and see whats going on in his head, explain to him why its important to know what your taking. I'm sure a trip to the hospital will turn out to be a lesson but a few words wouldn't hurt.

Hope he is alright.

Sorry to hear about your bro. Hope he does alright. Kids are dumb these days, ya know? A lot of them just want to get messed up and they usually don't care how, or what consequences their bodies must pay for their ignorance. It's sad and disgusting. I was always an informed drug user as a teenager, and everyone else should be too.

The only things I tried without researching were marijuana and booze, I was around 13 for both, so that didn't relly occur to me. When I was 15 though I started looking into things. Everyone I knew didn't research any new thing they tried, they just took what other people and siblings had to say about the drugs......It's too bad people don't look into mind altering substances before using them.

hope your brother is ok and learns his lesson

I don't think it is just that genration. I think it has to do with maturaty. I KINDA used to be like that then a close call with that same substance that your brother did. I smartend up with my drug use and became the person who researches EVERY drug I put into my body from caffine to cocaine I know it in and out.

After this I would do some brotherly bonding and show him the ropes of "smart" drug use/ show him the difference between users and abusers. That is if he still wants to mess around with them.

Edit: Yeah Im sure he will be ok. Probably drinking that activated coal as we speak, that makes you shit black for a week.

it just depends on the teen. I'm sure their were plenty of them in every generation. just depends on who you associate yourself with. My "click" (i hate using those terms) is pretty novice when it comes to knowing your shit. We dont do it to just get fucked up, but rather to gain something from that experience. Yet I still know a lot of dumbfucks that will take and do anything just to get fucked up

You guys are telling me, I've been hearin from friends about how their younger siblings are doing stuff like DXM and mushies BEFORE SCHOOl. Its a real shame

I agree with you about talking to him, it's already planned that my parents drop him off here around 9 PM so that he can "get away from the negative influenced' there. This is assuming he is OK by then.

I'm going to make sure he has a very good, educational, and drug-free weekend.

Does he know you do drugs? Do your parents know?

Well shit maybe you are right. They take DXM befor school??? WTF man thats just fucking ignorant. Taking DXM is like becoming a drug beligerent fool with the side effects of PCP. WOW that is new to me.....

Also don't blame your drug use on this. You smoked weed with him big deal man.... Thats like someone drinking a beer with their dad, then going and overdosing on cocaine. It isn't your fault.

He only knows I smoke pot, and drink occasionally. My parents however don't know a thing.

All my life I have been extremely secretive about my usage of psychadelics

There are teens like that don't think or listen to there friends in every generation. I was 18 in 1973. Things change but always remain the same.
Hope your brother is fine. Know your going to talk to him, but also talk to down the road. You know more than one or two times. With luck he will open up to you and both of you will become closer.GL

Yeah it depends on the person, and their level of maturity at the time.

When i was a teenager i used to do drugs for the same purpose that most teenagers start using them, in order to get high. It all depends on the people your hanging out with at that moment and the value they put into drugs, you simply inherit it.

So from there inevitably follows the opening of doors to more ways to get high, new highs you haven't experienced before hand. That's basically the mind state, "i want to get messed up." I was this same way, unfortunately my journey into drugs started in a dark ally. I once took Datura (the devils trumpet) because they told me it would make me trip. If you know what this is, you know how stupid it was at 16 without even knowing what i was taking. I went and picked the flowers from a neighbors house.

Your brother is going to seek drug use regardless. In my opinion I don't think you should fear the idea of smoking with him. Use it as an opportunity to show him a different door in the world of drugs. Just kick some knowledge to him while smoking, maybe when he is ready you can trip together. But of course all the mean while teaching him about it, so that he can get out of that "drugs to chase highs" state of mind.
