mycelial dormancy!
    #5214217 -

Get this. I was going to crumble and case all my 1/2 pint cakes but I ran out of my sterilized 50/50 with 5 cakes left. I decided just to cold shock them and stick them in my terrarium for the standard pf tek. However, after about 10 days to a week the cakes had no pins. I'm guessing the humidity was too low for pin formation since all the other cakes in the terrarium had been cased and i was keeping the humidity around 95% for primordia formation. Anyway, I wrapped these guys up in some tinfoil and stuck them in my fridge for at least a month of the holidays. When I got back I decided to dunk them and make some more 50/50 to crumble and case. Well I dunked and cased and these guys have started colonizing the casing layer very quickly. Tomorrow I'm going to cold shock the casing and stick in to fruit! Very interesting, I didn't know that the mycelia could lay dormant like that for so long and then just continue growth!

That is interesting. Try to see if you can determine an increase in potency on the fruits. I don't remember who, but someone around the forums claimed to have experienced increased potency in fruits that were grown from substrates that were given excessive amounts of time to colonize. It's still just a theory, but perhaps you can lend to proving or disproving. Anyways, cool shit about waking up those dormant cakes. Good luck w/ your grows.

Think about it though. It happens in nature. I am playing around with dormancy myself, and it does make sense now about using a great drop in temps. Drop its metabolism, so to speak. Good post man.
