Myce piss = stress & bacteria?
    #15020700 - 09/03/11 02:36 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hey. I am debating in my head if this jar is OK. I never had a jar that produced something exactly like this. It's like a ridge and you can see some discoloring. Maybe myce piss? I am still trying to figure out if myce piss accumlation is a bad thing. I have a filterpatch bag I spawned to that has some THICK gooey yellow myce piss buildign up.

I am reluctant to post this..cause the pic doesnt look that weird..but in person the jar definitely looks kind of fucked up.

If the jar is fine and I wasted your time.. sorry.. I am paranoid I just don't want to have anything with possible contams in my room. Lol when I see something like this 9 times out of ten I am ready to chuck it and you guys say its ok.

*update

we started talking about myce piss and I realized I have a bag with some real bad buildup.. And aparently its related to stress and bacteria!!
I am gonna post some pics in a sec to see what you guys think.

Here is the bag with some serious bed wetting issues.

I think your fine. If thats a pf tek jar and at 100% colonized I would birth it now to let it breathe

Really? These jars just reached 100% like today or yesterday I think & there is a bunch of them. Wasn't planning on birthing them until I saw pins (but that is only becuase I was under the impression that was the right thing to do). So you think I can birth and dunk all these guys?

None of th eother jars have these formations.. These jars fuckin FLEW in my opinion.. inoculated on 8/17 with ms and theyt like ALL finished today lol.

it's not "piss" it's metabolites. not sure if that's what you have, if so no worries. open it up birth it and if it doesn't smell like mushrooms then ditch it.

Its up to you really. You can let them sit for awhile if you want. Doesnt look like a big deal. I dont see anything that looks like contamination.

If it starts getting worse than I would birth it. rinse it off and dunk it.

metabolites are a reaction to stress or bacteria I believe.

So if it does get worse, rinsing it off and giving it fresh air will help.

Yeah you know what, I just realized this jar isn't 100% yet. There's a little like half-dimed size spot still needs to be done. I am sure it'll be done tomorrow. I guess I'll birth it when it his 100% and just leave the others for now.

I didn't realize that about myce piss.. well I didn't think the myce was actually urinating. But didn;t know it was the result of bacteria. I have a bag that has some build up in it, but I can smell through the filterpatch it smells EXTREMELY fresh (and I have had bacteria in bags before it smelled sweet/sour). I am hoping this bad isn't gonna bit ethe dust cause of this piss. HOld up ill get a pic.

Let them consolidate yo, unless that starts to pin. Other wise they will just sit in your damn FC forever before Pining.

Theres still alot of research going on with metabolites. They aren't fully understood. They are definitely antibacterial and medicine like penicillin comes from metabolites.

Yeah you know.. the bag really does smell fresh, & honestly the piss looks nasty but it has not affected the surrounding area in a bad way or anything.

I was considering draining the bag but I didn't wanna open it up tillafter it fruits the 1st time then i am gonna dunk..didnt wanna dunk prior to 1st flush for this guy.

It looks like its sitting in a lot of fluid. If it doesn't smell bad or look funny I would personally birth it.
I dont think its a good idea to leave it in there

What can I do with it though? I don't have anything to birth it into. It's not sitting in fluid though, the fluid is just on that corner of the bag visible in the picture, theres no fluid on the bottom side.

Or birth it out of the bag wash it off and just rebag it?

I could chop it up into peices and stick it inot my mini sgfc lol.. But I have a lot of bags going..I was planning on fruiting invitro like the simple lazy invitro poo tek on here (what I followed). So I didnt have a plan to birth out of the bags..

Well I found a quote from RR from 6 years ago lol.. makes me feel a little better.

You dont have a fruiting chamber?

I would at least give it a good rinse and drain any extra fluid.

I dont have hands on experience with fruiting cubes from a bag though.

Just make sure its not sitting in a puddle and give it plenty of fresh air.

Well I have this little sgfc but it only fits 4 cakes. Everything is in bags/dubtubs/monotubs...

By fruiting chamber do you mean like a martha green house type thing or one of those poor man pod things?

I just found this

Ok so afoaf has about 10 bags forming some intense myc piss and he was wondering if this will hinder growth and if the piss should be drained off thru the filter patch.

I think this may be a bad idea because it makes the filter sort of a wick for contams and the bags are about 60-90% done already.  However I have read  that sometimes these metabolites can be toxic to the mycellium so I'm not sure what to tell A FOAF what to do with his bags.

Currently the conditions are 69-75 degrees, bag tops moved once a day for air exchange, and in the dark.  most of the bags are reaching the 14 day mark and are not colonized yet.  There are no smells to indicate contamination by bacteria or molds.

Thanks for any input guys.

The metabolites will do no harm.  You can leave the substrate soaking in it.  They destroy contaminants, not cause them.

And that was a much more extreme case than mine..I wish I knew how it turned out.. You know, I appreciate everyones advice (and I am sure you ARE right) but im a lazy fuck.. since it's not a definite fail I am gonna ride it out because I have a million bags going..I am sure i'll run into this in the future. I need to know if its make or break you know.

I would trust the answer you found and update with how it goes.
I know you shouldn't let a bag sit in a puddle of water but it makes sense that if that puddle is metabolites it would actually help since it kills contams.

I was thinking that the metabolites was a reaction to too much bacteria, so it would help to drain and give fresh air. I guess I was wrong in thinking that would help.

I haven't ran into this severe case of metabolites personally, but  I wish you good luck with your grow

Don't jump to the conclusion you were wrong. I haven't seen any proof of either-just opinions.

I am gonna give this bag a go and let everyone know what happens.. hopefully it'll add some hard evidence behind some of these explanations.
