Why do we brush our teeths in the morning?

I don't get it... if you brush your teeth right before going to bed, why would you brush them again in the morning? If you just want to kill bacteria it would be more logical to just use mouthwash. imo I think we don't need to brush our teeth more than once a day, because that's often enough to remove the plaque before it starts secreting acid.

I don't know about you...but my breath could knock a dog off a gut wagon in the morning...not to mention the thin layer of scum on my teeth when I wake up. To tell the truth, in the Mornings is usually the only time brush my teeth.

I dunno about you guys but my breath can me killer in the mornings, whether I brush before bed or not. I definately have to scrub those chompers in the A.M. and I suspect the world would be a much better place if everyone else did too. :grin:

On days that I'm gonna be going places, I brush my teeth in the morning and at night, but when I'm just staying home... in the mornings, my breath is fine after I smoke and drink some soda.

Perhaps nicotine kills bacteria?

I think that's four a year. If four spiders are crawling into your mouth every night, you got a serious problem and should probably move.

I think a more likely hypothesis is that the nicotine and sucrose form a coating over your taste buds so that you don't necessarily notice the offending odor anymore. It's a fact that smoking degrades one's sense of taste and smell over time.
