Cold Shock Temps

I've read plenty of ppl saying to cold shock, but I'm wondering how low to go. My fridge is running at about 38* F, is this to low for cold shocking?

Also would you dunk cakes right after birthing while cold shocking, or should i just get a flush or two from the cakes before dunking?

dunking before you initiate pinning is a great way to give back water to the cake that it lost in the colonization process...

It gives it a boost I guess

I dunk after a flush, I dont think the cake loses much moisture during colonization. you could dunk afer birthing but i dont think its nessacary. most fridges are around 38, that should be fine

the cake/casing lose more moisture after they are birthed cased and exposed to air exchange - dunking is good and cold shocking usually isnt necessary for cubensis. Ive tried it and yes, you get a bigger first flush - but that just means a smaller second and third etc.
