B+ cold shock beneficial?
    #989356 - 10/24/02 12:55 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

I have a cake that was ahead of the rest, so i took it out of the incubator when it was at 100&, and set it, still in the jar, on my desk with indirect sunlight, room temp at 74 F to initiate pinning, that was 3 days ago. i decided it might be a good idea to dunk/cold shock it before putting it in the fruiting chamber, but i have read conflicting reports. some say dunking/shocking in the fridge will speed things up, while others say on P. cubensis it slows pinning down. what should i do? i pre-birthed the cake while waiting for the water to be used for dunking to cool down from the boiling. it's just sitting open on my desk right now, and i'm trying to decided what to do with it.

Skip the cold shock. Dunk it for 6 hours in tap water, pop it into the chamber and wait. Works every time for me.

I have this cambodian cake that has had 5 flushes, before the first, and between all flushes except for between 4 and 5, the cake was dunked, no cold shock. Between the 4th and 5th, I had to put it in a jar an leave it in the fridge for a couple of days (long story don't ask) . Well the first four flushes yielded around 6 grams, the 5th flush yield almost 3 grams, so I'd say cold shock.

You'll get shrooms either way, your methods will just determine how many you get.

i cold shock and dunk at the same time, it will greatly increase pinning as well as providing moisture for much larger fruits. you should dunk and shock before birthing and after every flush.

cold shocking and dunking both are not necessities just something to do is nothing seems to be happening, If I understand it right putting in fridge and putting in water both have their own risks( I have done both without problems but I avoid it). I always find lots of fresh air the drop in temp from coming out of the incubator plus light usually dose the trick. My personal advise would be make a baby casing.
