Cold shocking without a fridge?

Ok, I have innoculated my jars (3 dozen to be exact) and they are colonizing at quite a rapid rate... My problem is that it is quite warm in my grow area and I have had problems initiating pins in similar conditions. Before, I had access to a refridgerator, so cold shocking my cakes/casings was never a problem. However, my roommate ditched me a while back and I'm stuck living with my parents for a few months while I look for a house, and I wouldn't want to see the look on my mothers face when she found a big lump of white fungus in her fridge... So, my question is, are there any other ways to cold shock without the aid of a refridgerator? Maybe I could wrap a few ice packs in a towel or something and put them in a large cooler with my cakes? What would happen if when I dunk my cakes if I kept the water cold with ice packs or ice cubes, would that work? Thanks for any help you can give me!

Considering your options, I would say try it.

Put your cakes in ziploc baggies filled with water for your dunk. Dump a bag of ice in the bottom of a camping cooler of some sort, something flat on top of the ice (like a cutting board of a piece of plywood), and your cakes on the flat surface (to prevent direct contact with the ice).
That'll shock the hell outa 'em.

Cold shocking is rarely if ever needed.
