My ten dollar rooster

A few weeks ago a damned rooster decided to roost in the trees around my house. I don't mind sharing, but this animal was obnoxious. Roosters do not only crow at sunrise, but all through the night as well. I suspect the reason people think they crow at sunrise is because we hear them first thing when we wake up... if we woke up earlier, we would claim they crow at the moon and stars as well. Anyway, after a few weeks of little sleep, I decided the bird had to go. The problem is that wild roosters are not very easy to catch.

Yesterday after work, I am sitting at the bar on the beach bitching to the guy sitting next to me about the stupid rooster. When he finds out that I only live a few minutes away, he offers to rid me of the rooster for five bucks. Sweet! Five bucks later, and as many minutes, the guy comes walking back down to the beach with a dead rooster in tow. Just before getting to the beach, some woman runs up to the guy. I'm thinking, oh no, trouble... she is upset for some reason. A few minutes later he hands her the dead bird and she hands him some money... Thats right, the guy got five bucks from me to get rid of the bird, and five bucks from the lady buying the bird for dinner. Not bad for ten minutes of work.

Ah, another day of island life...

Oh, that isn't too important... in the Caribbean, south of latitude 20...

I have only been out hunting once here, and didn't find anything.  I know a few people that find tons of them during this time of year.

:grin:  somebody has to do it... I give up a lot to be able to go to the beach after work... no taco bell, milk is more expensive than rum, gas is over $3 a gallon, collect rain for water, power is off as much as it is on, roads have more holes than asphalt, high crime rate, lots of poverty, etc...

I did for a while, but not so much anymore... Good rum that blows away anything I have seen in the states, runs around $3.00 a liter here.

I used to drink a lot myself, but I think I overdid it because I don't care for it much anymore.

A couple people from the islands have recommended Cruzan before. Gonna have to give it a whirl. And $3.00 a liter? Fuck yea! That's almost as good as making it yourself.

Cruzan Rum is the best IMO... I bought a CASE of mislabled 750ml bottles from the distillery for $15 when I was down there.

I still buy it occasionally. Good stuff.
