Cold Shock, what's the reasoning?
    #514546 - 01/08/02 05:34 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Just curious to know what is the reasoning to cold shocking? When is the right time to do this? How long should it last? What temps are desireable? What are the benifits? anyone.......

a 10 degree drop in temperature lets the mycelium know its time to fruit. from 85-75 ideally.

what if you were only stoing your jars at about 80 or so. Would it be a good idea to let the cakes site at a lower temp than normal for a day or so, like at about 70.
The reason I ask is because i am trying oput some of my first cakes in my terrarium to see if its suitable. The humidity is in the low 90-s and the temp isnt much lower than when they were in there jars, They have been in the terrarioum foir about a week and I havent seen any physical change at all.
Should I try cold shocking ? and if so for at what temp amd for how long?

Thanks in advance

dude cold shocks every flush. He only does casings though. He waits until the desired amount of mycelium is popping through the casing layer, then places the tray in the fridge. This quickly stops mycelial growth over and through the casing, and once placed under optimal pinset conditions, pinning begins in an average of 3-4 days. The other benefit of cold-shocking, is that the trays can remain in the fridge until there is room in the fruiting chamber.

Dude finds Cold-Shocking to be an, if not important than helpful, part of the cubensis growing puzzle...
