air exchange during colonization

just curious as to the best method you people use on o2/co2 exchange for colonizing rye;
i colonize my rye with either 1/5 of a colonized jar substrate added to the new sterile sub, or with agar.
i dont have any hole in the top, and no filter disc.
the lids are simply on loose
what method do you people use to do this, should i add a hole, and equip some sort of filter, or is this method ok?

With the cakes method, the mycelial network is not disturbed. It goes from veg. to fruit, while with bulk substrate, once the quart jars are colonized the network is jumbled up and the rye is poured into pans. My idea involves sterilizing rye substrate already in the pans, and inoculating with slabs of colonized agar. Once the pan is fully colonized, remove covering (saran wrap) and induce fruiting. QUESTION: In theory, this would decrease total turnover time, as the stage which requires the recovery of the mycelial network is essentially skipped. Is there any advantage to shaking up the colonized rye before dumping into trays ? Basically my tek is a modified cake method, only mycelial surface area is maxed and network isn't disturbed. WHAT DO U THINK??
