pics of casing..first time grow..ready to innitiate pinning?
    #5126249 -

i actually have 2 different teks going but this casing was the first to colonize,,at first it fully colonized a casing layer with really fluffy mycelium completely covering the surface because i left it too long,..so then i put more casing on and this is how it looks now 3 days later...

is it ready to pin and how should i innitiate it.. (b+ strain)

Yeah I think so...it looks good...but I am still on my first cases...

I patched the aggressive areas....until it colonized evenly then started to pin them...

Man, the pics are not good. But, from what I see I would say fruit it now. And, do not patch.

If you patch and incubate..... it may not get that "even" mycelial layer that you appear to already have.

It looks like you will have a nice pinset coming soon. GL

Fruiting should have already been started when the myc just started to show at the surface of the casing layer.
I would lightly patch the whole thing and then go right into the fruiting chamber...that's me though.

either way you go will work..best of luck

one more thing, to innitiate pinning, will a regular light bulb work? about 2 feet above my fruiting chamber with saran wrap used to hold in humidity but still allow light in..or is there an easy way to do it better? and should i poke holes in the saran wrap or just take the saran wrap off every once in a while for air exchange?

The light arrangement sounds fine...

I don't believe you want the saran wrap on, to help with pinning

i just took a few pics of my set-up for ideas how to make it better? the white bag allows light in pretty well although it looks like it doesn't and it allows holds humidity quite well.
would tin foil with holes poked in it work better instead of the saran wrap?

sorry for the pics, my digital camera is shitty..and i did have a few more but it wouldn't let me upload all of them because i am over my limit in 24 hours, so this will have to do

Thanks for the pics....

That lid can work...there are other ways you could do it.

I believe you want to create a different atmosphere, change in the environment, drop the RH lower the temp...and provide FAE...

So I think the saran wrap has served it purpose...once you start the pinning stage.

thanks for the help Snaggletooth, so far for a change in environment, i have increased rh, dropped temps and added light, i am using b+ so it should pin pretty easy..but i was thinking for a better air exchange that i would remove the saran wrap and add tin foil with holes poked in the top to allow light as well. would this allow enough light to pin, and would i have to worry about contaminants doing that since the wet perlite is in the same container and i just added more water to increase rh?

A fully colonized case could be somewhat resistance...

You could add a little peroxide to the water... 1:10 I think..

The foil with holes would not allow enough lite in..

Once you have started the pinning the case should have all the moister that it will need...so lowering the RH I think would also help in pining

But I am also as new as you...so...

i think i am going to just leave the saran wrap on and see how it goes..i have always heard that b+ pins easily so i am just going to leave it...
thanks for the help.
i will post pics if all goes well

Everything looks good. Make sure theres holes in the foil/saran wrap while ontop of the casing to let it breath. 3 things to initiate pinning: Fresh Air Exchange, Light, and high humidity. Once a decent amount of pins come up, lower the humidity a bit to allow the already pinned fruits to mature. GL Please keep us updated.

tomorrow when i am alowd posting more pics ill put some of this casing incubating in my t.i.t.i.t and ill also keep you updated with my other casing..

I am new to casings, but why do you add the saran wrap over it when it is in the fruiting chamber? isn't the lid that u have over the chamber enough to begin pinning?

im new myself also and this is my first time fruiting, i just put saran wrap on which i have since poked holes in because it will keep up the rh and allow light in..because i only have my chamber lid on 12 hours a day, since it is green and won't allow light in, the rest of the time i use a white plastic bag..it keep rh up and allows light pretty well.

Those should have been fruited long ago - also, your casings look dry. Mushrooms are mostly water; a moist casing is essential for a good yield.

for a dry casing, would u recomend adding more casing which has more moisture or just spraying the casing that is dried out

and if so, what will happen if the mycelium is sprayed?

You would mist the dry casing and read a whole lot more.
