Polyfil to wick water? --- Method of humidifying?
    #5083894 -

I was just wondering if polyfil would wick water just as well as perlite would, or even better.

A method of doing this might be:

Put an air stone inside of a jar, then stuff polyfil ontop. Fill the jar with enough water so that the polyfil is soaked. Add H202 for sterility.

Think that would work? Polyfil is non-nutritious so there's a good chance it won't grow some funky mold on it.

Stick with the perlite, but, if you want to here's a good test.  Have two similar chambers, use one with perlite and one with polyfil.  Im positive that the perlite chamber will provide a CONSTANT level of humidity while the polyfil chamber will struggle.

It's not designed for it, and while it may possibly work, there are a lot better alternatives out there.  Like, did you know that you dont even need perlite in the fruiting chamber?  Most times spraying the walls and using the natural moisture from your cakes and casings will provide adequate humidity for your project.

Good ideas, but I am really interested in seeing if polyfil would do any good. I'd try it, but right now my FC is at 90% RH with just the air stone in the jar without the polyfil, lol.

I guess polyfil is just not necessary.

^^^I totally agree....but why not try...necessity is the mother of invention

It's really not, it serves its purpose as a filter and gas exchange tool.  It also makes a great santa beard

I don't have any perlite to do the test.

How about someone fill the bottom of a 2-liter bottle with perlite and test it's humidity.

I'll fill the bottom of a 2-liter with polyfil, then we can compare the results.
