incubating ?'s
    #5001803 -

I have a couple of mycology questions I am unsure of...

1. what is the max/min amount ml's of a spore syringe can be used with 1/2 gallon grain jar?

2. During the incubation stage, I know that 86 is optimum temp. If I lower the temp a couple of degrees will this lower my contamination rate? Will this be beneficial?

3. I seem to be getting a lot of "yellow piss" during the later parts of incubation stage, how could I decrease the yellow piss?

4. When is the best time to shake the grain jars.... I have read to do it when then it is fully colonized, which makes it a bit more difficult for me. I have also read to do it after 9 days for the first time. Which is better and which will lead to faster colonization?

thanks

for a 1/2 gallon grain jar, I'd use 6cc min. spore solution. And a max of 10 cc. I'd actually suggest using agar chunks or a liquid culture mycelium syringe.

Can't say if lowering should lower contam rates, though in theory it should. Keep em between 80-82. The mycelium produces its own heat during growing, thats why you're getting so much of the yellow piss. Its sweating it out in the heat of the incubator. IMO, 86 is too high an incubation temp.

Shaking after 25% colonization works best for me, then no more shaking after. But, to each their own as you are going to get tons of different opinions and ideas anyway.

Good luck, hopefully you'll find the answers you're searching for.
