Incubation Temperatures
    #3245427 - 10/12/04 12:06 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Do higher incubation temperatures (85-86) help speed up colonization as opposed to 80-82? I know the rule is not to over heat.

Also, if the higher temp does help, would it make it harder to fruit at a lower temp like 70 or so? Or would it be better to only drop the temp from 80 to 70? Maybe the extra 5 degrees would help in cold shock value?

Yes 85-86 is optimal tempatures. As long as you stay above 80 and below 86, you are good.

Fruiting is suppose to be at lower tempatures like 70 =)

citric is right. You want the incubation temp in the middle 80s. I have mine at 84 and saw a GREAT result. As far as fruiting goes, I've heard higher temperature helps mushrooms grow large, but it won't pin at higher temperature. I mean upper 70s for high temp as far as fruiting. Too cold and you are going to have slow growing mushrooms. So, try to keep it in the middle 70s. Mine is set 74-75.5 It's a little harder to control in the terrarium, so try to put it so it won't go into upper 70s. Right around 73-76 would be good.

Mushie Luck to you!

Sam

Optimum incubation temps: 82-84F. (This is taking into account substrate core temps)
Optimum fruiting temps: 74-77F.
Now the warmer side of optimum will most always grow faster.
