we call it pop in PA.

*Western PA

I'm originally from eastern PA, and nobody, ever, would say "pop" in reference to soda.

I currently live in the midwest, where everyone says it, and I cannot get used to the term.

Been in Eastern PA (Erie) 37 years, never used the word soda ever...

mountain dew is the only real exception to the rule,
pepsi, dr pepper, cherry/vanilla whatever, rootbeer.. if it's in a plastic bottle or can[and its carbonated], it's a coke.

unless it's beer

everyone in washington calls it pop.. but it turns out there all just stupid... it's soda...

"i need a soda" VS "i need a pop" pop of what? pop you in your mouth you keep talkin like that...

when my gf worked at a pizza place up here, people would order there pizza, and a pop.. like "and a 2 liter of pop"... to which she always had to reply "which kind?" for some reason, people just think that your magicaly going to know what kind of 'pop' there talking about... people who know better will say "and a 2 liter of pepsi"

Wow. After living there for nearly four decades, I can't believe you never noticed that the city of Erie, in Erie County, lies on the western border of the state.

To make it easy for you to understand, I've circled Erie on a map of PA. As you'll note, it's very far west.

I grew up in mid Georgia and it was always coke. You asked what kind of coke you had in the fridge. I have lived in Michigan for 8 years and now call it pop. It seems pop is more of a great lakes riegon kinda thing.

It can also vary by region. You go into east Tennessee and west North Carolina, you'll hear some call them "Dopies", no doubt harkening to a time when soft drinks weren't so soft. (I.E. when Coca Cola had real coke in it).

I live in Chattanooga and have never heard anyone in my life call coke "Dopies"

down here its coke, mostly because the first coca-cola bottling factory was in Chattanooga.
