I made 2 casings on the same day.
Both casings were cased with pasteurized coco coir/ground oystershells/ground limestone weted to the correct water content.
The strain is Ecuador, cloned from a mushroom.
Both casings were kept at identical conditions.
In the left casing the substrate is colonized rye(2 x 100g rye+105 g water+pinch gypsum), in the right birdseed(2 x 100g birdseed+110 g water+pinch gypsum), pressure cooked 1 hour at 15 psi and inoculated with rye grain spawn.

Result:
Birdseed is ahead of rye, the pinset is very good and uniform.
The rye casings only just begins to pin.

Anno how do u do it, i need the birdseed tek how to steep it, and how to sterilize it. My half pint jar of finch seed took 1 month to colonize and still hasnt fruited everything of yours fruits so healthy and big teach me u are a genius at mushroom cultivation!

A friend of mine innoculated 12 quarts of seed a couple weeks back.
INSANE colonization... I was going to case it with dung....
Do you think thats the best way to go with a 1st time birdseed casing anno?
Any tips?? :)

Son of a Bitch!! That is beautiful Anno! Yes, you must include what type of birdseed you used. I hear sunflower seeds are bad. Rye has been working fine for me thus far but that pic has me a thinkin bout the bird seed.

The best bird seed to use (and one most commonly recommended) is Millet. these are very small, round, yellow seeds, that are a large portion of Finch food.

You can find large bags of seed at just about any pet shop. I bought an 11lbs bag for $4.29. It was mostly Millet and Sunflower seeds and sifted the whole thing thru my collander a few times to get most of the much larger sunflower seeds out. i know i missed a few, but i'm not too worried about it. This stuff comes out to costing less than Rye seed too :)

ya........ i've been usin that too... except i buy it without the sunflower seeds. i buy this stuff and its got oat groats, white millet and flax.. and thats all
