... in Dublin!

I know a lot of Irish people who don't even drink the stuff elsewhere because it's just "not guinesss". I've drank it in Dublin once or twice and I must say it does taste different over there.

I don't drink guinness except in carbombs but damn, seems to me there's no reason to drink it from anywhere but a tap.

that's cool. i'll ask for that next time i'm at rosie mccaffreys.

i really do love guinness. has nitrogen rather than co2 right? that floats my boat because for some fucked up reason i can't burp. seriously. i can puke like a mother, but i burp about 4 times a year. and it ain't from lack of trying. feed me an alka seltzer and i'd prolly pull a sea-gull. but what i'm getting at is since nitrogen doesn't keep on getting released like co2 does, i don't get a fucking stomach pain like if i slam a few budweisers and get a tummy full of air.

what other nitrogen based beers are there? i know i've had them...

rumour. I live in dublin, they introduced a "extra cold" guinness about 2 years ago here, normally it is chilled like any other beer. I liked it in the summer, it is rare to see in in pubs nowadays. I drink nothing but guinness in pubs, I would never drink it at home, if I was to I would rather have murphys stout from a pint glass bottle, it has a widget, I would simply prefer to have a full pint, I hate those 500ml cans that fall short of the pint.

Most guinness abroad is pretty bad most say it doesn't "travel well", some pubs do not use the specific nitrogen/co2 blend. Some irish pubs in europe have the correct setup but the barmen do not know how to pour correctly.
Guinness pride themselves on their product they have a huge amount of reps travelling Ireland ensuring it is served in the correct glass and poured correctly, they also check the pubs are cleaning the pipes, and using correct gas and pressure and would threaten to refuse sale to non-compliant pubs.

I was in the guinness brewery only last week, I had been before and both times got mediocre pints there. You get great pints in particular dublin pubs (the modern superpubs have staff who do not care). In the countryside you usually get a good one too. If you visit Cork drink the murphys, it is excellent.

Some people here are VERY particular about their guinness and will return a bad pint frequently. Whenever I am drinking in a pub I usually have a friend or even strangers coming up to me and asking "hows the guinness?", if I just say "its ok" they may order a lager instead. Other people will order from particular barmen who serve better pints than others. Guinness hold a "barman of the year" competition every year too. People vote for their local favourite and they hold a competition with judges.
