transplanting azure mycelium in oregon
    #4964866 -

Here's the deal. I went to the Northern Oregon coast about 2 weeks ago. I only came back with a few small mushrooms, but I did get my hands on a stick about a foot in length that is covered with azure mycelium. There are even a few tiny pinners on it. How should I go about getting an outdoor patch started with this colonized wood? I live about 20 miles South East of Oregon City. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to check Psilocybe cyanescens Cultivation

i almost thought i wrote that post. seriously about two weeks ago i went to the coast and came back with a stick covered.....

so what ive done so far is agar work. that stick is one dirty lil stick. so far ive pulled myc from three different petris that contamed. thats three in two weeks. the myc is growing amazingly agresive. i plan on creating jars and bags all winter until spring then doin a huge spawn run in my back yard.

iseegreenandpurple we should keep contact and compair notes.

Why don't you just take a bunch of alder chips, soak them, drain them, then toss the colonized stick into the chips. It will grow off the stick and onto the chips fairly quickly. There is no need to go back to agar if you have a colonized piece of wood.

Hey X24, when you trasnfered the mycelium to agar how did you go about doing it? I thought about trying to inoculate some brf/verm. jars with some of the mycelium straight off the stick, but I'm worried about contams. I think I'm going to do what shobimono suggested and just plant the stick in some soaked alder chips, but I would like to accumulate as much mycelium as possible, perhaps to plant some more patches in some different areas. One question though about the woodchips, Should they be soaked AND pasturized? I just don't want my only chance of a homegrown outdoor azure patch to go bad.

I mean take the stick and colonize chips in a tub to grow inside during the winter. Do it in a basement where it is cooler, azures don't need real warm temps to colonize the chips.
You can use a big tub that holds a lot of chips or you could use multiple smaller tubs, just transfer some colonized wood chips to a new tub.

In the spring use the colonized chips in the tubs to make a patch in the ground.

Woodlovers are really contam resistant so you don't need to pasturize the wood chips, just soak them.

If you want a backup of myc, then take a colonized woodchip, put it in a ziploc in the fridge. It will last a long time. Agar opens up more opportunities for contams and there is really no need for agar with woodlovers.

Thanks for the advise shobimono. I was about to do a lot more work than I needed to. One more question though. Sould I break up the colonized stick that I have now and begin colonizing several tubs of woodchips, or would that be messing to much with the structure of the mycelium? That may be a stupid question, but I just want to make sure.

If it is about a foot and really covered in myc you could break it up into 2 or 3 pieces (or more) and be fine.
You do need to be careful of rubbing, handling, bruisin, etc the mycelium, meaning I wouldn't grab the stick with both hands and snap it in two. Hold a part that isn't colonized and use a saw or clippers to cut it.
