Floyd is definitely up there.  But on the whole I'd have to say the Grateful Dead, since they will suit my fancy in most any mood the heart and mind may conjure.  That said, music is largely mood dependent, and I have lots of bands that I place high on my list of many favorites, including but certainly not limited to:

after thinking about it though, I'd have to say my favourite band is the one which created the bitches brew, which was Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and a few others....

still the most amazing album I have ever heard.
