I didn't start to get into them untill right before they broke up. which sucked because I knew that there wouldn't be anything new comming out.

They are great but there is one song I want to get back from them in particular its on a live CD imported from Europe I believe the title is called "It had to be played on a Jukebox" Its basically abbie hoffmans poem but a song I guess you could say.

Rage is in my top 10 bands I wish I could have seen live.  I can only imagine what their shows must have been like.

Rage is awesome, I saw a show on their battle of Los Angeles tour. They are so high on my list, they fucking rock. I tend to be into musicians with huge political messages. Its awesome people use their music to help inform the youth that are so entrenched in this mass media bullshit.

I agree that's one of the reasons I liked them so much. A lot of bands don't have any good/important messages in their songs

Solo, I'm a soloist on a solo list
All live, never on a floppy disk
Inka, inka, bottle of ink
Paintings of rebellion
Drawn up by the thoughts I think!

It's set up like a deck of cards
They're sending us to early graves
For all the diamonds
They'll use a pair of clubs to beat the spades
With poetry I paint the pictures that hit
More than the murals that fit
Don't turn away
Get in front of it

Brotha, did you forget your name?
Did ya lose it on the wall
Playing tic-tac-toe?

Yo, check the diagonal
Three brothers gone
Come on
Doesn't that make it three in a row?
Come on!

Brotha, did you forget your name?
Did ya lose it on the wall
Playing tic-tac-toe?

Yo, check the diagonal
Three million gone
Come on
Cause you know they're counting backwards to zero

Environment
The environment exceeding on the level
Of our unconsciousness
For example
What does the billboard say
Come and play! Come and play!
Forget about the movement

Freedom...yeah
Freedom...yeah, right!
Freedom...yeah!!!
Freedom!! Yeah!!
Freedom!! Yeah right!!
Freedom!! Yeah!!
Freedom!! Yeah right!!

Once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free.
But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

This is why they broke up...

The Machine Breaks Down

Soon after Rage spoke of their plans for a live album, de la Rocha announced his plans to leave the band and begin work on his solo career. He blamed a communications breakdown and the band's inability to make proper decisions. 'It is no longer meeting the aspirations of all four of us collectively as a band and, from my perspective, has undermined our artistic and political ideal,' Zack said. 'I am extremely proud of our work, both as activists and musicians, as well as indebted and grateful to every person who has expressed solidarity and shared this incredible experience with us.'

While Zack de la Rocha has left the band, the remaining members are still committed to social activism. Guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk said, 'We're proud of our history and what we've accomplished musically and politically over the last nine years. We are committed to continuing with our efforts to effect change in the social and political arena and look forward to creating more ground-breaking music for our fans.' The fans are still waiting for more music and, aside from Tom Morello attending a couple of protests, things have been pretty quiet. Meanwhile, de la Rocha has been working on a solo album and contributed to a track on Roni Size Reprazent's newest album, In The Mode.

Even though Rage has left the spotlight, they haven't been forgotten. In February of 2001, they won the 'Best Hard Rock Performance' for 'Guerilla Radio' at the 43rd Grammy Awards. And in April of 2001, Morello was awarded 'Best Guitarist' at the 24th Annual California Music Awards. We're still feeling the impact of their nine years of social activism - in December of 2001, Mumia Abu-Jamar's death sentence was rescinded. He still faces life in prison and, possibly, a retrial. For updates on current events and social issues, check the official Rage Against the Machine website.

Who cares about a bunch of pseudo communists? When I see people paying $20 per CD, or whatever they cost now, to listen to a bunch of millionaires ranting on about how bad capitalism is, well, it's more than a bit amusing.

I've been listening to their entire discography lately.

I find myself constantly singing the lyrics to "Killing in the Name"
They've also got some pretty serious funk
