Could you chew off your own body part if necessary?

Like say your leg was caught in a bear trap. You're lost in the woods, naked (don't ask) so what can you do? Lie there and die? No. You must gnaw through your own flesh and crack apart your own bone in order to free yourself minus one leg.


Could you do it?? If you accidentally swallowed some of your own legmeat would that make you a cannabal?

I'm sure a person could do it if they needed too...but its still pretty amazing....

like that mountain climber dude who had his leg caught in that rock, and he cut off his leg with a pocket-knife to free himself? Thats pretty hardcore...I dont know how you dont go unconcious...

It was actually his arm that was caught, but to answer your question Elle it would depend on if I had a chance of survival once I was freed from the trap.

Well, I dunno about the body part thing, but I'd spend my time trying to open the bear trap. Of course, some of the bear traps I've seen would take a person's leg clean off, I imagine......

Is it possible to bite through a femur or humerus though? They're pretty big. I figure at that point I'd have to try to snap my own arm off with some violent twisting motion and I don't know if I'd be up for that.

Two years ago a guy named Aron Ralston cut off his own arm with a pocket knife when it got stuck under a boulder. (everybody's probably heard this but anyway) He was in a remote desert canyon and had been stuck for five days when he decided to take the arm off.

Could I do the same thing? I don't know.

If you had no way to stop the bleeding (clothes, etc.), you would die very quickly.
