The little fuckers dont like mycelium as much as they like your casing mixture (usually) - they love peatmoss and the dampness...I got rid of them by fanning more to disturb them and also by leaving a tray of wet peatmoss out next to terrarium - that attracts the little shits

Has anyone tried a small electrical outdoor type bug zapper? It may seem like over kill, but I have seen some cases of wasps invading grow rooms that were imuned to Black Flag type bug spray(posin).

We are talkin about plants arent we?

I have been doing some reading and I think I get them from not steralizing my casing mixture. I have a feeling that the peat moss has the insect larve of them in it when you buy it. My set up goes like this. First I use the PF tek to get a pure culture in jars. After I have enough jars to inoculate my substrate I birth the jars and break them up into it. This is what I use for bulk substrate. I use 50% steer manure and 50% wheat straw. The mycleum would never fully run throughout just the manure. I pasturize the manure at 1 hour at 170 deg and boil the straw for the same amount of time. After everthings cooled, I put down a layer of manure and straw on the bottom of fish tanks undergravel filters (trays) then a layer of the broken up cakes (as evenly as possible) then top it off with more substrate. I let it inoculate in a fish tank (sealed) at 84 to 86 deg for two to three weeks (depending on how evenly the cakes were layed out) After fully run I case it with the 50/50 tek for another week. After thats done I move the trays to the fruting chamber where it can get fresh air, light,and humidity at 74 to 76 deg, but still sealed. Useing bulk substrates produces way more and alot bigger mushrooms than just the cakes alone. And just a heads up to everyone....................when steralizing the jars with the PF tek instead of seralizing for 45 minutes go an hour and a half youll have way better results. I did 30 jars like that and only 4 were contaminated the best results I have ever had.................

I spray my terrarium lid very lightly with RAID. Just along the edges.

I had a few fly plagues, they are the WORST contamination problem. You're best off combining several tactics, those fly paper strips do a fairly good job of keeping the relative numbers down [but are really shitty to work with and touch]. I tried tossing a couple mothballs in the terrarium, thinking that the vapor wouldn't really do much to the mycelium. It didn't, but also didn't deter the little guys, they seemed to just burrow deeper.
Potentially, though I've never tried it, 'beneficial nematodes' available at finer plant stores, should consume the fly eggs, but who knows what they think of mycelium as food. . .
Praying mantises might thrive in a fruiting chamber, and would be very cool watchdogs.
