are fruit flie eggs just present in the original substrate and not killed by PC'ing, or are they attracted by something else, like the rotting grain? is it something else? i just wanted to know so that i have a better idea the next time around. thanks a lot.

actually, i meant what was the original source of the gnats? where are they coming from. there aren't any in the chamber, that i know of. i've looked pretty fucking long and hard. i think they're only present in the house.

Fruit flies & gnats can detect moist warm dung from 1000 yards away. They sneek into dung before & after it has been pasturized & lay eggs. The eggs turn ito tiny maggots that eat the myc & fruits. Then hatch into more f*cking flying pests.

If you find one -- it means a lot more are around -- in something. The raccoon ~~ once ~~ threw out a whole batch of cased substate containers, bug bombed & started over.

shitty.  what can i look for in the jars to see if they're in there.  i have an extremely sterile and airtight environment, and practiced good lab technique[at my colleges chem lab   ].  they could possibly just smell the grain and be attracted but not find their way to the source, yes?

I don't quite understand your question. Fermenting grain would draw gnats or fruit fly's.

But, if you PC'ed the jars of grain & they had a filter disk or material over them. No gnats or FF's could be alive inside after PC'ing & none could get through the filter barrier after.
