Beginnings of Green Mould? (pics)
    #490198 - 12/13/01 08:23 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Hmm. I've been observing my cakes (after recently having fought off cobweb mould) and noticed that they don't look quite right.

Would you please take a look at these photos and see what you think? Thanks!

This is the cake I'm most worried about - the biggest mushroom on the right (the one with the nearly-broken veil) seems to have developed a nasty green bruise. Now I don't remember bruising this little mushroom so I suspect it is mould. The aborts that seem to surround the base of it don't look too promising either.

Also on this photo:

This little shroom also seems to be suffering from the same thing - mysterious green bruises....

Any ideas what this could be?

The contamination is still there, those stains are signs that the mushrooms are rotting. Unfortunately that will only get worse.

Why do you have wire around your tank?

I had a wire rack in there because my cakes were originally sitting on it. But they were looking a little dry, so I moved the wire aside and sat them on the perlite for a few days. By keeping the rack in there it meant I didn't have to sterilize it again when I need to sit the cakes on it again. In the end I removed the rack completely because the cakes seemed to be happier on the perlite and the wire was getting very rusty.

Does that answer your q?

I picked these shrooms and then chucked the cake. I cut the greeny bits off the shrooms and made sure I was left with only the healthy looking material. I dried them, ate them and they seemed to be fine. I experienced a little more nausea than usual in the early stages of the trip, but it was no big deal. It could have been coincidence or maybe I was lucky to have not keeled over and died (I realise it was a very stupid thing to do, eating contammed shrooms)...
