just decided to put down my guitar for a while and learn some bass.

i was wondering if anyone knows of any good sites for learning bass scales, theory, etc.

not even sure if there are any good ones, but i figured someone here would know if there are.

haha an Opeth fan that wants to learn bass will of course learn scales and theory
cuz thats alllll their bassist does
opeth is tight
try to learn some slap/pluck tech. early when playing bass...especially if you like some funk or jazz
books from a local store (i go to hastings in oklahoma) will have everything you wanna learn

yeah i have a bass. i just bought it from my friend. it's a black Ibanez GSR200. nothing special, but it cost him $200 and i got it in near perfect condition for $30. :thumbup:

i just put down my bass for this acoustic guitar i got. learning some opeth tunes like the end of dirge for november and patterns in the ivy. the entire deliverance sounds really good on acoustic, I really dig slapping on acoustic like a bass and just twanging the shit out of it.

I have a johnson and a silvertone. Not the greatest brands but they play well. As well I can make them play. :wink:

I play bass too, but lately I have sort of been playing more mandolin.

Bass is fun because its decently easy really. Its fun to just lay down tight grooves, and improv all over them.

i've never found a website that presented bass lessons that were meaningful.

i have a number of books but 2 that helped me that i would recommend are:

serious electric bass by joel di bartolo

and

shredmasters guide to the bass guitar by dorian simons
vol 1 modes and scales
vol 2 chord dictionary

i discovered the shredmastes guide through bassplayer magazine. i did a current search on them but found nothing. sorry...

the company address that printed the shredmasters manual is:

you could write them to see if these manuals are still available.
