Jaco Pastorius, bass genius.
    #20366829 -

Hands down, my all time favorite bass player, and he's been that since I was 12 years old. Seriously, Jaco was the man, hands down.

First, listen to the groove he puts on it with that bass line, sorry but it's just brilliant.

Then mainly his bass solo at 1:20, I mean, come on, talk about soul.

Jaco :heart:

Haha Tony Levin is a monster. He's rocking the shit out of that Chapman stick too, damn.

I know this is overplayed, but seriously, Levin's bass work on this song was awesome. I know you probably hate this, haha, but it's only because the bass line was fantastic. I'm probably gonna get picked on for this one. Come on though, that riff at exactly 1:00 in, that's groove city.

Are you kidding?  I love Gabriel and this is a very catchy tune.  It was great that it brought Pete to the masses.

I saw Gabriel and Levin several times,  Usually Bruford was on drums, Larry Fast keying my mind and the great Sid McGinnis on guitar

Here is the first Gabriel tour.  Fripp was there but stayed behind the curtain so as not to upstage Pete.  He did let out a little clearly Frippertronic riff during warmups to announce himself but never appeared on stage

John Paul Jones deserves that title, he was an incredible bass player and all around brilliant musician. He's the only good thing about Zeppelin in my opinion, second would be Bonham. I mean yeah Page had nice riffs and Plant could sing (in the beginning), but as a band, JPJ really was the secret weapon. Jack Bruce deserves it too, so does McCartney. (yes, a fantastic bass player)

Flea = Nothing Special honestly

Cliff Burton = LOL (R.I.P though, he was a decent guy)

I love Victor, don't get me wrong he's incredible and honestly, I took a lot of what I know now from Victor Wooten, I've been listening to Victor since I was 13 years old and he was my all time favorite. It's funny though, as I got older and matured as a musician, I appreciated him a little less.

He's good at what he does, his technique is off the charts, his APPROACH to music is amazing, his overall attitude is awesome and I love his bass playing, but, he only works for what he himself does. I rarely hear big time names asking for Wooten on their records and what not.

Jaco, that man was a genius, the greatest, period. Many great names demanded him as their bass player and he deserved it. I love Victor though, just not as much as I DID. Jaco had rhythm, groove, melody and everything in between, and he did it in a whole new way, especially for bass players at that time.

Marcus Miller is the tits too. :rockon:

Marcus played bass on this track. Fuckin groove.
