Pinning Help?
    #489607 -

I cased on weds the 6th, started the light and the humidification chamber on sunday the 9th after signs of myc growth. The casing is 50-60% colonized, still seeing no pins. My temp are 79-81 and humidity usually around 90. It hasn't been a week thou the growth does seem to be slowing down would i need to mist any? Scrathing for overlay (what does overlay look like)? Or just leave be and wait alittle longer to be concerned.... Hope to hear some of your advice, Thanx

a week to pin after birthing?
or.. a week to pin from the creation of the casing?

From creating my casing to seeing pins was 10 days for me. Used a 50/50 Verm and Peat Moss mix. I put the casing back into the incubation chamber for 3 days, or till they were about 30-40% covered in mycelium. Then I placed them into my terrarium at 76 degrees with about 80-90% humidity. Now I have two casings with a shit-load of pins. I put three casings into my terrarium and only lost one to green mold. I removed it and now that casing is sitting out back in my backyard to see what happens to it.

I'd drop the temp if I was you. Dropping the temp from like 80 (in incubator) to 70 (in grow chamber) helps trigger the pinning. After having the temp low for a few days, kick it back up around 75. Just keeping the temp around 75 and not dropping it to 70 works fine too, just try and keep your incubator warmer than your chamber or else it can make the cakes take longer to pin once in the chamber (not always the case though). Hopefully that helps, good luck.

The point in dropping the temp lower than you need it is to help start pinning, thats the purpose of cold shocking some species.

I plan on picking up one of them ones like I posted about in the new year. I think it will be a good new year resolution.
