No you cannot.  Under city law you can, but that means nothing since it is still against state law.  Last year 98% of possession charges in Denver were persecuted under state law, this year it will be 100%.  This is still a big step in the right direction :smile:  And Hella the intiative was for complete legalization for the city of Denver.

no, the way it works is this.  The city of denver has decriminlized the possession of marijuana.  Decriminlized means no jail time, no community service, just a midemeanor ticket and probably a confiscation of your stash.

However, the fuckers in the PD will be able to prosecute people under STATE law (which is what most people get prosecuted under anyways).  And even if state law gets changed they can nail you with FEDERAL law.

BTW denver is NOT the first city to do this.  It was legal in alaska for a long ass time(and i think it got changed back) for a legal adult to possess on oz of cured marijuana and up to 6 female mature plants and another limit on immature plants.  Weed is also decriminlized in columbia, MO, Madison, WI (i believe i know there is one WI college town) and a few other hippie towns across the states

Honeslty, this shit is kinda pointless, until the general population decides that smoking pot is just as ok as drinking a beer it will remain illegal.  The only good to come out of this is motivation for other states pot smokers to do the same.

So dont go running out to denver thinking its the new amsterdam cuz you'll find yourself with a sore asshole and a new husband named bubba pretty quickly :smile:

no problem, im a member of my NORML chapter so i follow these things pretty closely. If you smoke pot you should at least check out their website, its a great way to keep up to date with all of this and actually understand whats really going on. www.norml.org

Where is everyone getting this decriminlization idea from? Everything I have read about the intiative up until this point has said the intiative was for full legalization of possession. Sources please?

Decriminalized means it's legal under certain circumstances, IE under an ounce if you're over 21, but it's still illegal to sell, and I'm sure there is something illegal about buying.

If it was legal you could sell, buy, have pounds, and do whatever the fuck you wanted with it.

There's a big difference.

that would be sweet if it was legalized.companies would probably start selling them by the packs and you could get like 5% thc or hard bud thats like 40% thc

Perhaps it is a matter of semantics, but the CNN article uses the word "legalized".

And of course, as everyone else has said, theres the matter of state and federal laws as well.

i said it was "kinda" pointless. It has its virtues no doubt, like i mentioned, it helps get rid of the "demon" image of weed. But if the people can still be prosecuted for posession it really hasnt done anything spectacular. Hell, you could go to cali and get yourself a medical license almost as easily as you can get a pack of smokes and you've been able to do that for years now.

Smoker for peace- Legalization, IME anyways, is when you are able to carry pot and not get a ticket for it. If you're 21, buy a case of beer, and get pulled over with the beer in your car you will not go to jail for it, not get a ticket for it, and are able to purchase it in shops OTC with proper ID. That is legal. When pot falls under that definition then it will be legal.
