what he means is that there's a lot of people making lots of money from things that run off of fuels, if there was suddenly motors that didn't require fuel, and just ran off their own energy a lot of people would not be making that money. which would piss off quite a few folks.

I think perpetual motion may be possible, perhaps in some very extreme circumstances.

You couldn't get any energy out of it without causing a reduction in speed, though. There can be no such thing as a perpetual motion energy-generator - you can't get something for nothing. I suppose one could be used as a lossless battery, if one is possible, but not to actually generate energy - just store it.

it would only work in a 'perfect' system - otherwise you'll always lose energy to heat, sound, friction, etc...

it slows down, right? because in moving through the air, it creates friction and heat (and i guess sound, but not very much).

the only 'perpetual' system would be one that encompasses all the energy in the system (ie, the entire universe), because as the energy is lost to heat, it stays in the system

they covered this on that tv show "mythbusters". they were able to create one, but it was essentially useless due to the minimal amount of NRG it created versus the enormous size, cost and trouble required to build and operate.

The pendulum will always loose energy to friction - either by air resistance or resistance at the point where the pendulum's arm bends.
