Eruption is just the INTRO to a song though, isn't it?

Although I do see it by itself pretty often, and I myself do find it to be pretty impressive, especially after attempting to do it with my own fingers.

It isn't that amazing.

I could learn the song if I wanted to. Finger tapping is all flash. It looks and sounds complicated but it's easy as fuck, and for some reason everyone is amazed by it.

While some of it is just purely flashy, there are some awesome finger tappers out there that use a very musical quality to it...example

Eddie Van Halen has influenced a lot of guitar players with his style though... He is a great guitarist, but there are better (better being a subjective term I guess).

Speed can be a bit misleading. It sounds like it would be harder to play fast, but truth is, you can hide messed up notes a whole lot easier than playing slow. Not only that, but it's easy to make a mistake sound like it was done on purpose.

To me, it's all about having a pallate. If someone relies too much on one color, you don't get the whole spectrum. But if someone uses speed to imply intensity and a climax, well it's my favorite thing.

Eruption obviously isn't meant to do that kind of thing. Funny thing is, Eddie apparently messed up on the take that's on the album. I'm not really sure what part though, as it's pretty hard to pick out.

Eddie VanHalen was definitely ahead of his time. One of the greatest guitarists in existance. :thumbup:

no doubt he was good at guitar but his playing doesn't do it for me. it seems uninspired and unemotional. When i lisen to jimi or gilmore or jerry i can feel the mass of emotion and soul they put into the playing that i think eddie lacks. I'll stick with the greats and eddie isn't on my list. :cool:
