Passiflora petiole nectar

Today I found large drops of clear, sticky nectar on the petiole glands of my P. incarnata (not shown in picture). I'm guessing that it's secreted to enlist ants in the defense of the plant.

I harvested this and sampled a bit. It is very sweet, although it dissolves a bit more quickly than honey. About 5 minutes later, the roof of my mouth began itching (and it still is now, about 10 mins later). Is this nectar good for anything? Has anyone ever noticed or tried it before? Someone with a large plant could probably harvest a tablespoon of this easily.
