A phone call I got yesterday...

Two weeks ago on the cruise ship I spent most of my on-board time at one bar. Alaskan cruises are known for being a lot more laid back and quiet then the crazy party cruises in places like the Carribean. People on Alaskan cruises are not up at all hours drinking and partying. So I ended up spending a lot of time getting to know one particular bartender, especially since I was usually the only guy there for the last hour or so each night before closing time. Turns out he was on the same ship that I was on last summer at the same time I was (but I didn't get to know him then). He's a really cool Jamaican guy. We talked about all kinds of things and got along great. He works 6 months on a ship and then spends a few months at home in Ocho Rios working on his house. Later this year he is gonna see some of the states before going home to Jamaica.

So yesterday my phone rings...

Me: Hello?
Him: Hey mahn. Ya know who dis is?
Me: Hey [name deleted]! Hows it going?
Him: Just takin a break, mahn. We in Skagway today.
Me: So hows things?
Him: Startin to get cold here. But only one more cruise in Alaska afta dis one. Then off to Mexico.
Me: Cool. So when you coimg to Vegas?
Him: Gonna be in California in October. Might come visit then, mahn.
Me: Great! I'd love to buy you a drink for a change!

I thought that was pretty cool. He's a great guy and I'd love to repay some of the hospitality he showed me that week.

So tonight, after a month and a half, my phone rings again.

Me: Hello.
Him: Hey mahn, ya know who dis is?
Me: Hey [name deleted]! Hows it going?
Him: Good mahn.
Me: Where you at?
Him: California.
Me: You coming to Vegas?
Him: Yah. Gonna be der on Tursday. Still got a place for me to stay?
Me: Hell yeah!
Him: Cool. I'll call you when I'm getting close to town.
Me: Can't wait to see you!

So I get to hang out this weekend with my one and only Jamaican freind! I'll have to show him how to do some partying Las Vegas style!

One of my old best friends was jamacian. He was the coolest dude ever because he was this black dude who hated niggers (yes, there is a difference between black people and niggers). He was the most racist black person I know and he was totally hilarious. But down the line he got into drugs and ultimately turned into a nigger himself. :frown:

hell ya man, and las vegas knows how to party! one of these days im gonna have to come chill with ya for a bit. there was that one time i was there on the 4th of july trip i try to do every year, but we just didnt plan it out well enough to hang out. one of these days man :grin:

I might go on an Alaskan cruise in a few years...

weed is legal in Alaska.... as such.... can you take it on the boats? Do they search or otherwise screen your baggage at all? Can you smoke up only if you are in fact in Alaska, geographically, at the time?

Do people smoke up on these boats?..... my grandparents went on one and said people were smoking up..... I think.... but I'm afraid to ask them for details.... it may have been while they were doing stuff on land.

I mean... you can't cruise through nature without getting high.... drinking isn't the same.
