"Surgery" Question
    #481660 -

My wookie's turtle-faced chiuahua lost about 10 BRF pints to cobweb and black pin mold w/ a pinch of some lipstick now too. He isolated the them from the remaining 25 and just let them do their thing. He says at this point, the area of infection has remained but white myc has grown all around that area. Normally, I would tell him to just chunk em', but what he was wandering...is it possible to birth these (in a completely seperate fruiting area, 'remove' the contaminated area, and case the remainder with damp verm? If it was not 10 pints, he could give a damn, but kind of a fair sized loss and he just wants to see if there is anyway to salvage anything. Any ideas?

For every spot of contamination you see, there's thousands of microbial growths around it. If you cut off the visible contams, there will still be some present. Odds are, whatever grows from the casing will be contaminated in some way - best case, you have a stomach ache - worst case, you die.

When in doubt, throw out.

my wookie friend has faced the same problem... he had only one remaining jar from an isolate from wild cubes that was contaminating... lots of spots of contamination but the mycelium would fight it bravely. my wookie friend took the worst sites of contamination off and buried his cake under a guard plant (a little common flower that like humid places) and the cake has recovered totally (he has looked inside the buried cake) and is fruiting now. =)
